Project Overview

This project will improve the outdated and unsafe Brantner Gulch through Riverdale Regional Park, including the Knolls Golf Course. Once completed, it will also change the floodplain in the park, taking the bulk of the fairgrounds out of the floodplain providing protection to people, wildlife and buildings. It will also create an emergency ingress and egress for life safety vehicles and officers as well as widening Park Blvd to two lanes in each direction. It will be timed with the construction of other improvements at Riverdale Regional Park including the new Midway parking lot, outdoor covered arena, and barns.​

Why it matters?

This project is very important to public safety as the current gulch is unsafe and creates major flooding issues during storm events and the concrete lining is unstable. The new gulch will be a natural channel without concrete panels and be sized to handle flood events appropriately. The new gulch will also get the fairgrounds out of the floodplain providing protection to people, wildlife, and buildings. Timing is critical for this project as there is a Brantner Ditch crossing that needs to be constructed during times that the ditch is not running and the dirt from the Gulch project will be used to grade the fairgrounds for those improvements.​
