Fuel Farm Replacement Project and Transition to Unleaded Avgas

Project Overview

The aviation fuel farm system at the Colorado Air and Space Port includes the original system that was first installed when the airport was established and additional tanks installed in the early 1990s. It is an underground system with three large tanks for 100LL and Jet-A aviation fuel. Risk Management advised that the system will no longer be insurable past 2026, so a new system is required. In addition, the aviation industry and the State of Colorado are advancing programs with the intent of phasing out the use of 100 low-lead fuels by 2030. CASP would like to be able to offer an unleaded alternative well in advance, so a part of this project would add additional fuel tank capacity to accommodate the unleaded alternative fuel, as well as accommodate future flowage.

Why it matters?

The current system will be uninsurable past 2026, which places significant environmental financial liability on the County. Its also crucial for CASP to proceed with the transition from 100 low-lead to 100 unleaded as soon as possible to minimize the leaded fuel impact on the adjacent communities.
